RCVS to promote RCVS Academy and new EMS Policy plans at SPVS Congress 2023

20 December 2022

The RCVS will be promoting the RCVS Academy and plans for a new EMS policy at the upcoming Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons (SPVS) Congress, taking place Thursday 26 to Saturday 28 January 2023 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

On the stand, in addition to sharing information on current RCVS projects, there will be live demonstrations of the RCVS Academy – a free digital learning platform specifically designed for veterinary professionals. Launched in June 2022, the RCVS Academy now offers courses in a range of areas, including career development, concerns support, VetGDP Adviser, client connections, students & newly qualified, and leadership & coaching. At SPVS Congress, delegates will be able to explore a new Leadership vs. Management course which is due to launch ahead of the Congress. The new course will allow veterinary professionals to learn more about the differences and similarities between leadership and management.

Away from the stand, on Friday morning members of the RCVS education team will be hosting a workshop, entitled ‘Enhancing the EMS experience for students and providers: RCVS proposals for change’, to provide information and space for discussion on their new Extra Mural Studies (EMS) policy which is due to come into force from autumn 2024 onwards. Plans for the new policy were formally launched in October 2022 and aim to address the existing challenges being faced by veterinary students, veterinary schools, and EMS providers under the current system. For more information on the plans, you can download the proposals in full via our dedicated 'Extra-Mural Studies fit for the future' page.

If you would like to attend the RCVS EMS workshop, spaces are bookable in advance via the SPVS Congress website. The session will be taking place at 9.30am.
