Fees

All veterinary surgeons practicing veterinary medicine in the UK must be registered with us. We also register veterinary nurses and practice premises. Veterinary professionals and practices must pay a fee to register with us and an annual fee to remain on the register. 

Fees for veterinary surgeons 2023-4

*Annual renewal fees fall due on 1st April each year. If the renewal fee is not received in full by 31 May then your name will be removed from the Register of Veterinary Surgeons. In order to restore your name to the Register you will need to pay a restoration fee of £379, in addition to a registration fee. Please note, during this time you will not be able to use the postnominal MRCVS and UK-practising vets will need to cease practising immediately.

** To change your category to Non-practising (70 years plus), please contact the Registration Department.

Restoration fees after removal for non-payment

In order to restore your name to the Register you will need to pay a restoration fee of £117, in addition to a registration fee. Please note, during this time you will not be able to use the postnominal MRCVS and UK-practising vets will need to cease practising immediately.

Fees for Registered Veterinary Practice Premises (RVPP) & Practice Standards Scheme 2023

Also, please note that the annual fee for a main/standalone practice covers 1 day of assessment every 4 years. A branch premises does not accrue an assessment day. Any additional assessment days exceeding the accrued amount will be charged to the practice to cover the assessor’s time and expenses.

Awards assessments will be charged based on assessor time, which will be charged at a minimum in half-day blocks plus travel time and expenses.

Practice Standards fees include a VAT charge of 20%. RVPP fees are exempt.

In addition to the RCVS enrolment fee, students must pay a qualification registration fee to the relevant awarding organisation or university. Your college or university will be able to advise you further.

The registration fee/reduced registration fee covers initial entry to the register and the annual fee up to 31 October. The annual renewal fees cover the period 1 November to 31 October in the following year.

Restoration fee after voluntary removal

If you restore to the Register within 18 months of voluntarily removing your name, you must pay the annual renewal fee only.
