RCVS to hold sessions on sustainability, CPD and how we support the professions at London Vet Show

28 October 2022

We will be attending London Vet Show 2022 where we will be providing help and advice to the professions on continuing professional development (CPD), as well as holding a number of talks about our current projects and priorities.

We will be at Stand D27 at London Vet Show which takes place on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 November 2022 at the ExCeL Centre where we will be talking to members of the professions about how they can best fulfil their annual CPD requirements, as well as demonstrating how to use the RCVS 1CPD app to plan, record and reflect on their learning and development. We will also be running a CPD-related game where participants have the chance of winning a free tablet on both days.

Our Lead for Postgraduate Education, Jenny Soreskog-Turp, will be available for an informal chat with delegates about CPD on the Thursday between 10.15 and 11.15am at the Alumni & Community Zone. The next day, between 10.10 and 11.10am in Gallery Suite 2, she will be chairing a session titled ‘Workplace-based learning and reflection: CPD and VetGDP’ where both veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses will be talking about the benefits of workplace-based learning and reflection, how to foster a positive learning culture, and how to use the 1CPD app most effectively.

The following RCVS sessions will also be taking place at London Vet Show:

  • Friday 18 November, 9am to 10am – RCVS CEO Lizzie Lockett will host a talk titled ‘The RCVS and you – how we are supporting the professions to evolve’ which will provide an overview of some of the priority areas the College is working on to support and enhance the profession. This includes the legislative reform campaign to develop a new, modern and more flexible statutory underpinning for the vet-led team, the RCVS Academy a new digital learning platform which aims to help members of the professions better understand and fulfil their professional responsibilities, and the new, simplified concerns investigation process.
  • Friday 18 November, 11.20am to 12.20pm – RCVS Junior Vice-President Dr Sue Paterson FRCVS will be giving a talk titled ‘Sustainability in practice – the one health approach’ in which she will talk about the College’s internal and external sustainability policies and how the RCVS is working with partners, stakeholders and other professions on sustainable healthcare. Crucially, Sue will talk about how sustainability is being embedded via the Practice Standards Scheme’s Core Standards, meaning that all veterinary practices will need to have strengthened policies around the use of antimicrobials and anthelmintics, for example.
  • Friday 18 November, 12.30pm to 1.30pm – Dr Linda Prescott-Clements, RCVS Director of Education, will be presenting ‘A new EMS policy for the future: improving learning, flexibility and opportunity’ on the College’s new policy for Extra-Mural Studies (EMS), providing an overview on proposed changes, the timeline for change and efforts to support students, vet schools and providers to deliver EMS.
