Social media. Some love it. Some hate it. Some can’t live without it. Whatever your stance, it has undeniably become an integral mode of communication for individuals and businesses alike. But how has this technological revolution impacted our mental wellbeing?

Join us and our fantastic panellists for an open discussion all about social media and its mental health impacts – the benefits, the challenges, and the drawbacks.

Lou Northway RVN

Lou Northway CertVNECC, NCert(Anaesth), RVN, qualified as a VN in 2009, and has worked in various first opinion practices and a referral hospital. Since qualifying, she has undertaken 2 further nursing certificates in Anaesthesia & Analgesia and Emergency & Critical Care.

In 2019, Lou was awarded the RCVS Inspiration Award for her ongoing ability to inspire and enthuse others in practice, and further afield. She also became an RCVS Knowledge champion for 2 consecutive years for her clinical audits undertaken in practice. She is also a previous British Veterinary Association (BVNA) council member.

Since returning to work after having her baby boy in September 2020, she now works part-time in a very busy, first opinion practice. Alongside this, she also works for RCVS Knowledge as Quality Improvement (QI) Lead RVN and is a part of the IVC QI steer group.

Through her social media blog @louthevetnurse (Facebook and Instagram), which has over 18,000 followers worldwide, she shares CPD, hints and tips with fellow VNs, and blogs about her life as an RVN.

Dr Bolu Eso MRCVS

Dr Bolu Eso is a small animal general practitioner with a keen interest in surgery. He studied Veterinary Medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest, spending 6 years learning overseas. This setup perfectly complemented his passion for travelling, as not only did it allow him to immerse himself in Hungarian culture and language, but to make the most of exploring Europe.

After graduating with Honours and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and Intercalated Master of Science, Bolu joined a veterinary practice in rural Kent. Bolu specialises in small animal medicine and has completed externships in the United States, India and the UK and is working towards specialising in surgery.

He loves using social media to educate the public on veterinary matters and is an advocate of responsible pet ownership. Outside of veterinary medicine, he is passionate about mental health and behavioural psychology.
