The RCVS Fellowship Day will take place on Monday, 27 November at One Great George Street in London, and aims to showcase the variety and extent of the Fellowship’s knowledge-base. 

As part of the day, we will be welcoming and celebrating the achievements of the new Fellows awarded their Fellowships in 2023.

We have an interesting programme planned as follows:

  • 09.15 – 9:45 Registration & refreshments

  • 10:15 - Fellows of the Future Student Competition
  • 10:50 - President's address - Dr Sue Paterson MRCVS, RCVS President
  • 11:00 - Break
  • 11:40 - Panel discussions (further details below)
  • 13:00 - Lunch
  • 14:15 - Fellows of the Future Student Competition results
  • 14:20 - Presentation of RCVS Fellowships awarded in 2023
  • 14:40 - Keynote Speaker – Professor Dame Sally Davies GCB DBE FRS FMedSci
  • 15:40 - Address from the Chair of the Fellowship Board - Dr Chris Tufnell FRCVS

Please note that the agenda is split into two parts of the day; up to lunchtime is largely intended for Fellows and MRCVS to take part in the discussions, and the afternoon session (including lunch) is open to all. Guests of Fellows collecting their awards on the day may wish to join the event from lunchtime (13:00).

Keynote Speaker

This year's keynote speaker will be Professor Dame Sally Davies GCB DBE FRS FMedSci.

Dame Sally's talk is entitled ‘One Health, One High-Level Meeting: the global movement on AMR’ and will be delivered to the Fellowship to coincide with World AMR Awareness Week.

Panel discussions 

  • Net Zero Surgery
    This discussion brings together veterinary surgeons, industry experts, and eco-conscious minds to delve into the aspects of Net Zero Surgery. The discussion will explore innovative ways to guide veterinary professionals toward achieving net zero carbon emissions by looking at an overview of current legislation and guidelines shaping sustainable veterinary practices; engaging in discussions led by experts on successful strategies and challenges faced in the journey to net zero carbon and creating the opportunity for the audience to share valuable views, opinions, and suggestions on effective approaches and untapped opportunities.
  • An update: Animal Behaviourism - is it an act of veterinary care?
    This discussion will provide an update on the work of the Fellowship Science Advisory Panel’s (FSAP) working group on ‘Animal Behaviourism -is it an act of veterinary care?’, by sharing the perspectives and ideas which emerged during an enriching roundtable meeting held with key stakeholders. The discussion will look at how behavioural therapy relates to veterinary diagnosis and treatment and whether understanding and addressing animal behaviour should be an RCVS regulated aspect of veterinary practice. The audience will be provided with the opportunity to share their views and suggestions.

'Fellows of the Future?' competition

Three veterinary student and recent graduate finalists will present their research during the day as part of the Fellows of the Future competition.
