Biography

Yolanda is a senior Lecturer in Cardiopulmonary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh.

She graduated from Barcelona, Spain in 1998, where she worked in general practice for five years. She relocated to the United Kingdom, where she completed a self-funded cardiology internship and gained her RCVS Certificate in small animal cardiology (2004). She completed a residency and gained her ECVIM Diploma in Cardiology in 2009, becoming an RCVS Specialist in 2011. She became a SFHEA in 2018.

Yolanda’s main activities currently are clinical cardiology, veterinary undergraduate teaching and ECVIM approved residency-training with an active programme with two cardiology residents working towards specialist status. Most of her research time is clinical cardiology with publications in the field of heart rate variability, diagnostic tools for cardiac disease, and exotic/wildlife cardiology.

Yolanda has a strong interest in assessment, especially of competencies. She has been an examiner for the RCVS Certificate, a member of the ECVIM Cardiology certifying examination committee, and is currently the chair of the ECVIM General examination committee. She is completing a part-time PhD in veterinary clinical education.
