RCVS Academy update: November 2023

In our November 2023 RCVS Academy update, Jen Ayers (pictured), RCVS Academy Manager, looks at how we can use the shortening days and the chillier nights to reflect on the year just gone.

Jen Ayers Approaching the end of a year provides great opportunity for reflection and future planning for the year to come. When we carry out this reflection, we often realise we engaged in learning and development without realising.

This is something that the new RCVS CPD reflection requirements have encouraged us to do, to recognise those achievements that we might not have realised were achievements at first.

CPD remains fundamental as we continue to explore innovative ways to build learning and development into our lives on an ongoing basis. The RCVS Academy was developed to provide accessible, on-demand learning to support flexible CPD opportunities.

This year we’ve added lots of new content to our suite of bitesize learning to help you meet your professional standards, with new courses on treating wildlife and strays.

We’ve continued to develop more content on supporting veterinary professionals with complaints, with a course exploring different complaint scenarios, making this applicable to real situations occurring in everyday practice. We’ve also launched new content to help newly qualified and returning nurses navigate the transition into life in practice.

In response to specific requests from leaders and Clinical Supervisors, we have also developed further learning content for these groups, and we also now offer bespoke training for professionals involved with assessing and examining both veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses.

We are continuing to develop new learning relevant to all kinds of veterinary roles and, via the Academy platform, help you build CPD into your busy schedules. As you begin to reflect on the past year of learning, please do explore the RCVS Academy to help you plan for future development opportunities. You can access the Academy and log-in using your MyAccount details.
