Veterinary surgeons are required to store CDs securely and appropriately in a suitable cabinet to prevent unauthorised access. The following CDs are legally required to be stored in a locked container which is compliant with the Misuse of Drugs (Safe Custody) Regulations 1973:

  • All CDs in Schedule 2 (with the exception of quinalbarbitone)
  • CDs in Schedule 3 containing buprenorphine, diethylpropion, flunitrazepam and temazepam

The RCVS considers it advisable for all CDs in Schedule 3 to be stored in the CD cabinet. The Safe Custody Regulations describe the requirements for CD cabinets, safes and rooms and the standards to which they must be manufactured or built.

Yes, it is.

This may make it more awkward for you to find a VetGDP Adviser. You need to work in the same practice as your VetGDP Adviser for at least one hour a week, but there can be a sensible use of flexibility around your work patterns. Practices may not employ you unless you have an Adviser, although they can be in another practice. You may change your VetGDP Adviser where necessary.

Even if you are working as a locum part time, you still need to engage with the VetGDP.

You may include CPD undertaken abroad, but you should ensure that your description of this, and the hours involved, are clearly recorded in English so that the details of what you have done are transparent to, and understood by, the RCVS and others with an interest in your CPD record, such as prospective and current employers.

176.

All vets practising in the UK, whether they graduated overseas or in the UK, must comply with the RCVS requirement of 105 hours of CPD over 3 years.

177.

If you are continuing in education, studying towards a PhD for example, you can apply for an exemption but if you are taking on another veterinary role at the same time, such as being a locum, you will need to participate in the VetGDP.

Some members have been experiencing payment issues with VISA cards and some Alliance & Leicester cards.

Please note you only have 3 attempts on the same card.  If you are unsuccessful after 3 attempts, please try again using an alternative card.

Please note the address of the debit or credit card being used must match the billing address the RCVS hold on your record (this is normally your correspondence address), or your payment will fail. This is for your security and in line with recent changes to UK banking regulations.

Before making your payment you have the opportunity to check and amend the billing address we hold for you, please ensure all address fields are completed or your payment can not be processed.  If you are using an overseas address, you don’t have a postcode or zip code, please populate it with 00000.
