Academy Live returns with new interactive webinars to celebrate VN Awareness Month

30 April 2025

Following the success of this year’s previous sessions, the RCVS Academy has organised a new tranche of live, interactive webinars taking place throughout May 2025 for VN Awareness Month.

The online sessions have been organised by the RCVS Academy, our free, online learning platform, to give attendees the opportunity to enhance their learning by engaging in real-time discussions with experts from the RCVS and their fellow professionals.

The events taking place in May will have a veterinary nursing theme as it coincides with the British Veterinary Nursing Association’s VN Awareness Month, although veterinary surgeons and other members of the practice team are very welcome to attend any of the sessions.

The sessions are:

  • 1pm on Thursday 8 May 2025, 'Working in the UK for overseas qualified veterinary professionals', with speakers Vicky Hedges RVN, RCVS Vet Nursing Examinations Quality Lead, and Claire Hobson RVN, RCVS Examinations Manager. This session is aimed at those who wish to work in the UK, as well as those who wish to employ veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses from overseas;
  • 1pm on Thursday 15 May 2025, 'Professional development as a RVN – finding your niche', with speaker Shirley Gibbins RVN, RCVS Vet Nursing Qualifications Lead. This session is aimed at RVNs looking for fresh thinking and new ways of engaging in professional development;
  • 1pm on Tuesday 20 May 2025, 'Tackling tutorials', with RCVS Qualifications Assessors Sophie Geake RVN, Jasmine Curtis RVN and Tori Thornton RVN. This session is aimed at new and existing clinical supervisors and those considering becoming a clinical supervisor, as well as internal quality assessors, student vet nurses and those working at veterinary nursing training providers;
  • 1pm on Wednesday 28 May 2025, 'What do RVNs want to see in the future of the profession?', with Jill Macdonald RVN, VN Futures Project Manager. This session is aimed at all members of the practice team who have an interest in the future development of veterinary nursing.

Catherine Hemingway, Head of the RCVS Academy, said: “At the RCVS we are extremely proud of the number of veterinary nurses that we have on the team here and the knowledge and experience they bring on all manner of subjects – from exam design to quality assurance and career development.

“For this year’s VN Awareness Month we wanted to celebrate all veterinary nurses have to offer by sharing the expertise of our own VN staff with the wider professions, showcasing the breadth of what members of the profession can do, while also providing useful guidance and learning points to those taking part.

“The four free Academy Live sessions we’ve organised in May will be useful for all those who thrive in an interactive learning environment and cover a wide range of subjects with a particular emphasis around veterinary nurse registration, education, training, and professional development.”
