Post-placement top tips

As your placement draws to an end, our top tips will help you end the experience on a high note.

Say thank you!

A little gratitude goes a long way. A handwritten card, a box of biscuits for the staff room, or even just a genuine "thank you" can make a big difference. A small gesture like this will leave a lasting good impression with your placement team.

Reflect on your experience

Reflection is key to getting the most from your placement. Things may not always have gone to plan, and it's important to analyse why. Would you have done anything differently to achieve a different outcome, or were the circumstances outside of your control?

Looking back on your successes is just as important. Recognising what worked will help you build confidence and good habits for the future. Plus, practising reflection now will set you up well for documenting your Continued Professional Development (CPD) once you graduate.

Submit your feedback forms

Make sure both you and your placement provider complete any forms required by your university. To help things along, give the provider a copy of the form in advance so they have time to fill it out.

Share what you’ve learned

Talking through your experiences with peers and tutors helps consolidate your own learning while passing on valuable insights. Think, too, of the students coming after you - the feedback you leave could ease their nerves and help them prepare for the same placement.
