Candidate biography
My name is Meghan Conroy and I have been a Registered Veterinary Nurse since 2013. I have worked in both general practice and referral settings in the Hampshire area, gaining broad experience of clinical veterinary nursing across different environments.
My qualifications include a Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing, a Graduate Diploma in Clinical and Professional Veterinary Nursing, a Diploma in Feline Nursing from the International Society of Feline Medicine, and RECOVER certification. These have supported my continued interest in high standards of clinical practice, education and professional development. In particular, feline friendly practice and good quality CPR CPD are areas close to my heart.
I am a member of the BVNA, the BSAVA and the Association of Zoo and Exotic Veterinary Nurses, which has helped broaden my understanding of the diversity of veterinary nursing roles and perspectives across the profession.
Outside of work, I am the owner of a number of rescued animals, including dogs, cats and birds — many of whom came home with me from practice, an occupational hazard! Although my animals keep me busy, I also enjoy swimming and aquafit in my spare time.
Candidate statement
- Why do you want to stand to be a member of VN Council?
I want to stand for VN Council because I have a long standing interest in the role of the RCVS in not only regulating the veterinary profession, but also maintaining public health and animal welfare. I strongly believe in the RCVS’ founding principles and in what can be achieved through bringing together individuals who are committed to improving and upholding professional standards.
I am passionate about supporting this work at every level of the profession from my own consulting room up to the VN Council. I am motivated by the opportunity to contribute at a strategic level, where important discussions and decisions shape the future of veterinary nursing and am committed to advocating for change to the Veterinary Surgeons Act whilst also using current legislation to the full.
I would like to be an advocate for veterinary nursing by listening to colleagues and helping the profession navigate and develop from the recent public scrutiny. I believe thoughtful, evidence based regulation is essential to maintaining public confidence, supporting animal welfare and ensuring the profession continues to develop in a positive and sustainable way.
- What do you think you can bring to VN Council?
I understand the importance of VN Council working as a collective in order to govern effectively and drive the profession forward in the public interest. I value respectful discussion and evidence based decision making, recognising that robust debate must be balanced with collective responsibility once decisions are made.
I would bring a grounded perspective informed by current clinical practice, alongside a strong appreciation of the role of regulation, education and professional standards. I am committed to supporting the RCVS mission through constructive and engaged participation in Council discussions.
From a clinical perspective, I hope to bring my passion and expertise in relation to good quality CPR CPD and feline friendly practice. Being an active part of practices which have worked through the Practice Standards Scheme gives me the experience needed to promote all aspects of practice from the veterinary surgeon through to the client themselves. I have a strong interest in the One Health initiative, considering how animal, human and environmental health align.
I believe my experience, professionalism and collaborative approach would allow me to contribute positively to VN Council’s work, while remaining mindful of the responsibility to act impartially, transparently and in the public interest at all times.
- What relevant experience do you have?
I bring experience of communicating and working with individuals across all levels of the veterinary profession, from colleagues in clinical practice through to those involved in education, governance and professional development. This has helped me understand the importance of clear communication, proportionate standards and collaborative working.
Alongside my professional experience, I have personal experience of mental health challenges, which has led me to work with others to raise awareness and improve staff wellbeing. This has informed my understanding of the importance of safe, supportive and well governed professional environments.
I also have experience relating to clinical governance and quality improvement and have a strong interest in continuing professional education and the role of the Practice Standards Scheme. These areas are central to maintaining high standards of care, supporting reflective practice and ensuring public trust in the profession.
I am accustomed to working within professional frameworks that require accountability, integrity and thoughtful decision making.
