Sam Bescoby
BVSc CertAVP (EP) (ES-O) (ED) FHEA MRCVS
Biography
Sam graduated from the University of Bristol in 2008 and began his career in mixed practice. He then completed an internship in Equine Medicine and Surgery at the University of Liverpool, where he remained as an ambulatory equine clinician for three years.
After moving to the South West, Sam worked in private equine practice before taking up clinical teaching roles at the University of Bristol. During this time, he continued to develop a particular interest in equine dentistry, working across both first-opinion and referral cases.
In 2021, Sam established a general equine practice, which transitioned to a dedicated equine dentistry referral service in 2023.
Sam has examined for the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice, the University of Bristol BVSc, and the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians. He currently sits on the RCVS CertAVP subcommittee and has previously served on a professional regulation panel for the Farriers Registration Council.
Elected to RCVS Council in 2025, Sam has a strong interest in education, clinical practice and in improving retention within the profession. His experience across university and independent practice gives him insight into the real-world challenges faced by veterinary professionals. He is particularly keen to ensure that regulation and educational structures support long-term, sustainable careers.
Outside of work, Sam enjoys family life in the South West with his wife and two children.
