Mark McLaren (Lay member)

Biography

Mark McLarenAs well as providing public affairs and consumer policy advice to a range of organisations since 2015, Mark McLaren has been a non-executive director of the Property Ombudsman since 2015 and a member of the General Optical Council fitness to practice committee since 2019. He also serves as the Class Representative for the Consumer Rights Act 2015 collective action on car delivery charges.

In 2016-18, Mark was a member of the RCVS's Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Advisory Panel, which led to the establishment of the Vet Client Mediation Service (VCMS).

For nine years until 2015, Mark worked for Which? (the Consumers’ Association) covering a wide range of consumer issues including access to redress, quality marks and consumer legal rights (updated by the Consumer Rights Act 2015).  Earlier in his career, he worked for Age UK, the UK’s leading charity for older people, in public affairs and policy roles.

Mark is a cat lover - with 2 friendly tabby cats named Percy and Perry who regularly try to join in home working meetings on Zoom.  

Mark joined the Practice Standards Group as the Lay member in 2020.
