RCVS to quiz the professions on controlled drugs knowledge as part of BVA Live activities

21 May 2025

At next month’s British Veterinary Association (BVA) Live show in Birmingham (Thursday 12 to Friday 13 June 2025) we will be holding a competition to test the professions’ levels of knowledge around controlled drugs.

Delegates will be able to take part in the quiz – which uses a combination of multiple choice and ‘true or false’ questions - at our BVA Live stand F10. The quiz will cover a number of different topics around controlled drugs use, storage and disposal to help the professions understand the key legal requirements, as well as RCVS guidance, about controlled drugs and safety. Those who complete the quiz will be entered into a prize draw for an electronic tablet.

Throughout both days of BVA Live we will also be participating in a number of live sessions. These are:

  • Utilising the RCVS Academy to support your professional development, Thursday 12 June (9am to 9.50am) at Exhibitor Showcase 1. In this session Catherine Hemingway MRCVS, Head of the RCVS Academy, will be speaking about the current courses available on the RCVS Academy, how these courses can support your continuing professional development and how the Academy links to the 1CPD app.
  • Hot topic discussion – Shaping the future: reforming the Veterinary Surgeons Act and its impact, Thursday 12 June (10.25am to 11.25am) at the Business Careers and Debates Theatre. In this session RCVS CEO Lizzie Lockett will join other panel members to explore how the process for reforming the Veterinary Surgeons Act would take place. This session would cover the challenges facing the profession, the potential areas for change through reform and aims to help the professions understand the impact and benefit these changes could have for veterinary practices and the wider profession, including what this means for animal welfare, professional standards, and the future of the industry.
  • The foundations of workplace culture: Building a thriving workforce, Friday 13 June (3pm to 3.50pm) at Exhibitor Showcase 1. In this session Linda Belton MRCVS, RCVS President; Angharad Belcher, RCVS Director of Advancement of the Professions; and Tash Goodwin-Roberts, RCVS Projects Implementation Manager, will explore the multifaceted nature of workplace culture, understanding that it is not a single entity but a combination of diverse components that contribute to overall success. The sessions will seek to help delegates understand the key factors that support a strong workforce culture, learn practical strategies to implement and enhance these elements within workplaces, and foster a collaborative and inclusive environment that drives success.
