Join us for an in-depth discussion on RCVS Veterinary Clinical Career Pathways - your input matters!
RCVS Council has recently approved an ambitious project to expand and diversify the career options available to veterinary surgeons working in clinical practice. This first focus group will consider the objectives associated with workstream one ‘to develop a curriculum and implementation proposals for Veterinary GP specialty training.
Focus Group Objectives
The following objectives will be discussed by stakeholders during this first focus group meeting:
- To establish the overarching purpose of the training programme, through consideration of the needs of the workforce, the profession and the scope and focus of veterinary care services.
- To identify the intended learning outcomes of the training in terms of the clinical and professional knowledge, skills and behaviours required to fulfil the role of Specialist in Primary Care.
- To identify suitable learning environments for the training
- To establish the required mechanisms of supervision and support for vets on the training programme.
Workstream 1 objectives will also be revisited at the other focus groups this year, the next focus group session is planned for Monday, 10 June 2024 in Edinburgh.

The focus of the day
This stakeholder event marks the beginning of developing a curriculum for specialty training in veterinary primary care. Our aim is to explore the purpose of the proposed training program, discuss intended learning outcomes, and explore optimal learning environments, as well as requirements for supervision and support for participating veterinary surgeons.
