Biography

Dan graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2003 and has worked in both mixed, equine and small animal practice. Dan has been an Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine since 2019 and is now the owner of two small animal practices in Dorset.
Dan developed an interest in LGBTQ+ advocacy and support following his own experiences as a gay man working in the veterinary profession.
As one of the founding members of the British Veterinary LGBT+ group Dan held various committee roles with the BVLGBT+ and was elected President in 2019.
Dan has spoken at several conferences and events discussing his own experiences and offering support and guidance to colleagues and practice owners to ensure workplaces are open and inclusive. A highlight of his year as President of the BVLGBT+ was the opportunity to visit several vet schools to talk to students and learn more about their experiences as members of the LGBT+ community and the impact this can have on student life and EMS.
Through his involvement with the BVLGBT+ Dan has supported BVA with their EDI strategy and was a member of their EDI Advisory group. Dan has recently been appointed to the BVA EDI Committee.
Dan is also a member of the BVA Wellbeing Awards judging panel and was a member of the BVA Good Veterinary Workplaces Group.
Dan continues to be involved with the RCVS Diversity and Inclusion Group and has presented podcasts and webinars discussing a range of topics including allyship, Pride events and good workplaces.
