RCVS Fellowship Day 2026 to explore One Health and animals in sport

On Thursday 26 November 2026, the 39 new RCVS Fellows will be formally welcomed to the Fellowship in a day filled with celebration and insightful discussion.

Taking place at One Great George Street, London, Fellowship Day takes place annually and acts as an opportunity for Fellows to meet, exchange views and network with colleagues. 

Highlights of this year’s event, include: 

  • Keynote speaker: Professor Sarah Cleaveland OBE FMedSci FRS, Professor of Comparative Epidemiology from the Institute of Biodiversity, Animal Health and Comparative Medicine at the University of Glasgow, will be giving the keynote address, entitled ‘One Health: pragmatic actions for better health.’ Professor Cleaveland had received the Leeuwenhoek Medal and Lecture for her pioneering work towards the eradication of rabies throughout the world. 
     
  • Debates: Attendees will have the option to choose between two interactive debates discussing relevant important topics. Session one will be based around the question ‘Should we be using animals in sport and entertainment in the 21st century?’. While session two will centre around ‘Do or die? Treating inherited conformational disorders or tackling their causes?’. 

The day will be hosted by Dr Niall Connell FRCVS, Chair of the RCVS Fellowship Board. Niall said: “Fellowship Day is a key highlight in the Fellowship calendar. Each year, it provides a valuable opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our new Fellows and recognise their significant contributions to the profession. It is also a chance to appreciate the breadth of expertise, experience and perspectives that make up our Fellowship as a whole. 

“I look forward to welcoming Fellows, both current and new, and to taking part in meaningful and thought-provoking discussions. Alongside our debates in the morning, we’re delighted to have Professor Sarah Cleaveland join us to provide the keynote speech, which promises to be both informative and enlightening.”

The day is open for all veterinary surgeons to attend and can count towards the annual RCVS CPD requirement.
