Support a positive return to practice with the RCVS Academy

In this month’s RCVS Academy update, the RCVS Academy team highlight their courses supporting those returning to practice, including ‘Vet return’ and ‘Nurse return’, as well as the recently launched ‘Welcoming returners’ course.

Returning to veterinary practice after a break can be an exciting and challenging step. With the right support, returners can rebuild their confidence, refresh their skills and continue their valuable careers in veterinary work.

The RCVS Academy has two courses designed to support veterinary professionals who are returning to clinical practice after a break and has recently launched a new course for those supporting returners.

‘Vet return’ and ‘Nurse return’ are designed for veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses returning to clinical practice after a break. The courses provide an opportunity to refresh knowledge, rebuild confidence and consider the next steps towards returning to practice, at a pace that feels manageable. Where relevant, they can also complement the VetGDP or Period of Supervised Practice (PSP).

For those supporting someone else’s return, the recently launched ‘Welcoming returners’ course provides practical guidance for managers, colleagues and the wider practice team. The course explores how to create a supportive, inclusive and structured return, including practical steps that can help returners feel welcomed and supported as they settle back into clinical practice.

Whether you are returning to practice yourself or supporting a colleague, the RCVS Academy has resources to help make the transition a positive experience for everyone.

All Academy courses are free and linked to 1CPD, allowing learners to easily record their learning hours towards their annual RCVS CPD requirements. New courses are added to the RCVS Academy regularly. Follow the RCVS social media channels for the latest Academy updates and course launches.
