RCVS Academy offering an autumn of learning with free online live sessions

The online sessions will cover a range of topics for both veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses at all career stages, with opportunities to ask questions and join discussions with other veterinary professionals. 

Attending the webinars can count towards the annual continuing professional development (CPD) requirement for vets and vet nurses and can be recorded and reflected upon using the RCVS 1CPD platform. 

The six sessions are as follows: 

• Introduction to VetGDP – Tuesday 13 October at 1pm:  This session will explore the purpose and structure of the Veterinary Graduate Development Programme,  how this can support you and will examine what Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) are and how to apply EPAs within the VetGDP.
   
• Client confidentiality – Thursday 15 October at 1pm: This session will support vets and RVNs in their decisions on when to breach client confidentiality in situations where animal welfare or wider public safety are at risk.
   
• VetGDP portfolio preparation – Tuesday 20 October at 1pm:  This session will explore how new graduate vets can prepare their VetGDP portfolio for submission and will discuss how to ensure the portfolio is sufficient in terms of content and how to check it meets the required format. 
   
• Clinical supervisor: Tackling tutorials – Thursday 5 November at 1pm:  This session will focus on conducting tutorials with student veterinary nurses as part of the clinical supervisor role. Conducting tutorials with your students is an integral part of the role and are the framework of a student's development plan, enabling areas of focus to be identified and providing time for any difficulties to be addressed.
   
• CPD: Record and reflect –  Friday 6 November at 1pm: This session explores how to practically record and reflect using the RCVS 1CPD platform and will also discuss what counts as CPD and how to reflect on learning. 
   
• RVN starting out: Building confidence – Wednesday 9 December at 1pm: This session will support student veterinary nurses and newly-qualified RVNs to develop their professional identities and build confidence, including key tools and tips to build a strong foundation for a career in veterinary nursing.
