MMI to showcase new look at VMG Congress

We'll be showcasing the new look of our Mind Matters Initiative (MMI) and introducing a new free course on managing mental health in the workplace at the Veterinary Management Group (VMG) Congress, taking place from Wednesday 22 to Friday 24 April 2026 in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Mind Matters

Launched back in 2015, our Mind Matters Initiative aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of those in the veterinary team including students, veterinary nurses, veterinary surgeons, practice managers and those in non-clinical settings.

At VMG, the MMI Team will be running an interactive 90-minute session on ‘Managing Mental Health in the Workplace’, as well as sponsoring the tea and coffee breaks where it will be showcasing its new branding.

Director for the Advancement of the Professions and MMI, Angharad Belcher, said: “Over the last ten years, MMI has established itself as a trusted go-to resource for veterinary professionals seeking to increase their knowledge on mental health and the impact it can have on both a personal and professional level.

“The new brand helps integrate the work of MMI more comprehensively under the main RCVS umbrella, as the project plays a key role in the College’s overall supportive and preventative approach to regulation – tackling the cause of problems before they become issues and supporting veterinary professionals to be the best they can be.

“MMI is now a well-established part of the College work and main strategy. It was therefore a logical next step to make sure the professions understand that all MMI work is rooted within the College.”

The MMI branding aligns with the shield and iconography of the new RCVS brand and visual identity launched in October 2025, while maintaining its signature green colour palette.

The RCVS Mind Matters VMG session, taking place on Thursday 23 April as part of the ‘Grow Stream’ in the Packwood Room from 2pm to 3.30pm, will introduce the new free ‘Managing Mental Health in the Workplace’ CPD course developed by the RCVS MMI and Academy Teams, alongside expert partners. In the session, delegates will gain actionable steps to create a mentally healthy workplace; including how to recognise and respond to early signs of mental health problems and how to apply communication skills to aid supportive conversations.

Our Veterinary Nursing Team will also be running a session at the congress – ‘How we can all integrate nurses into our team: sharing strategies and a practical roadmap for change’ – running on Friday 24 April from 11.45am to 12.30pm as part of the ‘Share Stream’ in the Ballroom. In this session, Director of Veterinary Nursing, Julie Dugmore RVN, will be sharing the results of the recent project ‘A vision or a necessity: strengthening the role of veterinary nurses in team-based veterinary healthcare’, which explored how veterinary nurses can be more effectively integrated within multidisciplinary teams, and why doing so is essential for the future of veterinary healthcare. The session will discuss long-term goals and the practical steps needed to achieve them.
