Ms Emma Jane Townson

Biography

Emma Townson, RVN CertVN ECC CertVLM, is a registered veterinary nurse with more than 15 years' experience across first opinion and referral practice, as well as leadership roles within the veterinary profession.

She began her clinical career in small-animal practice before progressing to senior nursing and management positions. Emma now works as Head of Veterinary Support at Vet Times, where she leads bespoke recruitment and consultancy projects for veterinary practices across the UK and internationally. Her work focuses on supporting sustainable recruitment, leadership development and strengthening the veterinary workforce.

Emma has a particular interest in veterinary leadership, workplace culture and professional standards. She holds the VMG Certificate in Veterinary Leadership and Management (CertVLM) and is currently completing the accompanying diploma.

Alongside her professional role, Emma is committed to supporting the veterinary profession through regulatory work and was appointed as a veterinary nurse member of the RCVS Disciplinary Committee in 2025. 

Emma is proud to continue her family's longstanding contribution to veterinary nursing. Her grandmother, Jennifer Townson, was a founding member and the first Chairperson of the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA), and her dedication to advancing the profession continues to inspire Emma's commitment to professional standards and leadership.

She lives in Portugal with her family while continuing to work closely with the UK veterinary profession.
