Privacy statement for Fellowship survey on the vet as a trusted interpreter in infectious disease control
In line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), this privacy notice for research participants lets you know how and why we are using your personal data for the Fellowship survey on the vet as a trusted interpreter in infectious disease control. This includes who will have access to your personal data, how your data will be used, stored and deleted and who you can contact with any queries or a complaint.
What is the legal basis for processing my data?
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) is the data controller for this research project. As part of the RCVS’s Charter function, it is important that the RCVS conduct research to gain an insight into the veterinary professions.
RCVS has used your personal data to contact you about this survey on a legitimate interest lawful basis using the Charter. The purpose of the survey is to help RCVS Fellowship to understand .the role of veterinarians as trusted translators between science, the public, and policy. Only vets can explain how they currently communicate on science and policy. As a Royal College which regulates, RCVS has a unique role in both regulating vets and supporting their public role in society. This forms the basis of the legitimate interest under which we have processed your data to invite you to take part in the survey.
The RCVS will process the data provided by registrants for the purposes of this survey on the basis of consent. Taking part in the research is voluntary. Have we got access to your Register data?
The RCVS research and Fellowship teams work separately from the Registration team, and from the teams upholding standards. We use your registration data to contact you for research purposes, but we do not put the information you give us during your research participation into the RCVS database or Register.
Who will have access to my personal data?
The RCVS will contact a random sample of vets on the UK-practising Register directly by e-mail. The RCVS will provide information on the research and why it is being undertaken. Responses will be collected anonymously. This means that it will not be possible to identify you from the responses you provide.
If, at the end of the survey, you give your permission to be contacted about follow-up research, your answers will be linked to your name and contact details until the end of April 2027, when the link will be broken.
Partial data will be included in analysis, so you do not have to fully complete the survey for your data to be analysed. If you do not wish for your survey data to be analysed, please do not complete the survey.
At the RCVS the research data will be stored on an encrypted server with access restricted solely to members of the research team.
How will my data be treated?
RCVS researchers will analyse the data from the Fellowship survey on the vet as a trusted interpreter in infectious disease control and provide an aggregated and anonymous report that summarises the main findings. Raw data will be used for research purposes only and will not be viewed by anyone outside of the research team.
Who can I contact if I would like to withdraw my survey data?
It is not possible to withdraw once you have completed the survey. Since the data is collected anonymously, it will not be possible to identify your data in order withdraw it.
