Paul has spent the majority of the last 17 years of his career in dedicated farm animal practice across three different UK vet schools. In these roles he has not only provided first opinion clinical services to practice clients but has successfully developed referral and consultancy services too. Although providing quality services to farm animal clients has been important in these developments Paul's passion for veterinary education and providing practical opportunities for his students has been the main driving force behind these initiatives.
Over his career Paul has built on his interests in education and student support to influence delivery and assessment across vet school programmes and has been involved in various student support mechanisms.
Paul is a firm believer that the support from vet schools doesn’t end at graduation and has spent a significant amount of his time providing support and advice to graduates with clinical and career development questions.
Paul’s research interests are varied however he is keen to contribute to the growing research in veterinary education. Currently he is one year off completing a part-time PhD with R(D)SVS looking at student and graduate preparedness as they transition through the BVM&S.
Paul’s current role is as Veterinary Reader and Programme Director for the new BVSci veterinary programme at SRUC Aberdeen where he is utilising his years of experience to develop a curriculum fit for the needs of Scotland’s rural mixed practice.
