Dr Wright graduated form the RVC in 1974 and after a year as a Houseman in Liverpool returned to gain a PhD in canine spinal diseases. During this period she was awarded the Bewicke prize (1977).

After a 5 year lectureship in the RVC Pathology Department, continuing to publish (largely in the CNS, PNS fields) and carry out collaborative research work in particular Equine Neuritis of the Caudal Equina and Grass Sickness, she moved into Toxicological Pathology at ICI pharma. She consolidated her experience in pathology, with her MRCPath/FRCPath and DiplECVP through the 1990’s. She was also active on the BSTP Education Subcommittee, running courses.

After a brief period working in Diagnostic Pathology and the Meat Hygiene Service she became Chief pathologist for Syngenta Crop Protection, developing new technologies in Safety Assessment, supporting early research, and subsequent compound development. Innovative methods of compound screening were explored - integration of efficacy, safety and regulation - across industry and academia, supporting undergraduates, postdocs, MSc and PhD students. Particularly in the areas of carcinogenesis, developmental anomalies and endocrine disruption.

In 2012/13 Jayne lectured in Vet Path and at the PACN in Ethiopia. She continues her support for Ethiopian vets/students. Latterly she has been Chair of the RCPath VetPath examiners and a BSTP councillor. FRCVS 2018. She has collaborated with WVS - animal welfare in Ethiopia
