Find out the key dates in the specialist status application process.

Task/event	Timeline
Advance notice sent regarding renewal of specialist status to those whose recognition is due to expire.	Summer 2026
Retention payment due for listing:	1 April 2026
Reapplication due:	1st September 2026 Those Specialists who do not reapply will be removed from the next published list of Specialists i.e. in April 2027
RCVS circulates completed reapplication forms to Members of the SSC for consideration and recommendation:	April 2026
SSC considers new applications and agrees recommendations to go to Education Committee:	January 2026 April 2026 August 2026 October 2026
Education Committee considers SSC recommendations	February 2026 May 2026 September 2026 November 2026
Applicants advised of decision:	As soon as possible after application decision agreed by Education Committee
