Veterinary businesses asked to provide information for CMA practice levy
Following the conclusion of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) market investigation into veterinary services for household pets, we have written to all veterinary businesses requesting additional information needed to support the implementation of the CMA’s remedies.

Background
The CMA is due to impose a series of remedies on veterinary businesses to address competition problems it found in relation to the supply of veterinary services for household pets.
It decided that the RCVS would be best placed to perform certain activities to support and monitor compliance with these remedies and stated that the costs incurred by the RCVS should be funded by a levy on qualifying veterinary businesses.
The CMA published its ‘Funding Order’ on Thursday 20 August, which will be followed by a ‘Substantive Order’ to put in place the rest of its remedies package applying to veterinary businesses.
What veterinary businesses need to do
We have contacted all veterinary businesses to request additional information to establish which companies need to pay the levy and how much they will be charged.
They must submit this information to the RCVS by Friday 4 September 2026.
