MMI: Mental Health First Aid Course - England (May)

This course is delivered and certified by an experienced vet and Mental Health First Aid England Instructor. 

It will take place on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 May 2026 at Harper Keele University, from 9am to 5pm each day.

Who this is for

The MHFA training course is open to all members of the veterinary professions, including veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, students, receptionists and practice managers, as well as those in wider animal health and welfare roles.

This course is ideal for individuals who would like to become an MHFAider® to gain the knowledge and skills to spot signs of people experiencing poor mental health, be confident to start a conversation and signpost a person to appropriate support.

Learning outcomes

  • Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
  • Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
    Practise active listening and empathy
  • Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
    Discuss the MHFAider® role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
  • Practise self-care
  • Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
  • Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England

Please note: This course will be held live, in-person and will not be recorded. To complete the course and receive certification it requires full attendance on both days of the course, and participation in group discussions and activities.
