Dr Ian Battersby
Biography
Ian graduated from Bristol University in 1998. Following periods working in mixed practice and small animal practice, he returned to Bristol to complete a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Ian was awarded the RCVS and European Diplomas in Small Animal Internal Medicine in 2005 and RCVS Specialist status in 2007.
At Davies Veterinary Specialists ( 2006-2022), he undertook a number of roles including Head of Medicine and Director. In 2022, he was appointed as Global Pharmaceutical Stewardship program for Mars Veterinary Health for three years. Ian currently works as an independent consultant alongside roles for a variety of charities.
Ian has worked on a variety of committees in different roles including chair of the Small Animal Medicine Society. Ian conceptualised and lead the group which developed the BSAVA/SAMSOC, ‘ARE YOU PROTECTING?’ antibiotic campaign. He was awarded the BSAVA Melton award in 2013 for meritorious contributions to small animal practice and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for Meritorious Contributions to Clinical Practice (MCCP) in 2017.
Ian’s other interests include rabies elimination in underdeveloped countries. He was founding chairman of Mission Rabies (2013-203) and is currently a trustee of Worldwide Veterinary Service. He is a member of the DEFRA Core Rabies Group and a member of the specialists advisory board for the charity Street Vet and trustee of the Bella Moss Foundation.
