RCVS Academy: 2025 in review

As we approach the end of another productive year for the RCVS Academy, this is a great opportunity to review our progress and outline our plans for the future.

This summer marked the Academy’s third anniversary, and the platform has continued to grow steadily. So far this year, more than 7,000 veterinary professionals have accessed the Academy, and 2,952 courses have been completed, demonstrating strong engagement across the professions.

Person using the RCVS Academy platform on a laptop Working closely with subject matter experts from both within the College and external expertise, we introduced eight new courses, bringing our total to 39 courses.

We also delivered 15 Academy Live sessions, with 757 attendees. Academy Live continues to provide valuable opportunities for learners to engage directly with experts, ask questions, and share experiences. Each session is designed to enhance our course content and support veterinary professionals in achieving their CPD goals.

This year’s new courses include:

  • Communicating cost – Understand your role in effectively communicating veterinary treatment costs to clients.
  • Vet return – Support for veterinary surgeons returning to clinical practice following a break.
  • Advertising and social media – Guidance on responsible advertising, professional self-promotion, and appropriate use of social media.
  • Farm to fork – Learn how government veterinary surgeons safeguard animal welfare, food safety, and public health throughout the supply chain.
  • Appointed senior veterinary surgeon – Support for veterinary practices preparing to implement the appointed senior veterinary surgeon role.
  • Suicide awareness fundamentals – Training to help veterinary professionals respond sensitively in suicide-related situations.
  • Managing mental health in the workplace – Support for managers and leaders in promoting positive mental health at work.

Throughout the year, the Academy team has attended events and congresses to raise awareness of the Academy and demonstrate how our courses can support different roles within the profession.

Our Head of Academy, Catherine, and Digital Learning Content Writer, Charlotte, also delivered presentations highlighting how the Academy can support learners’ ongoing professional development. We shared our annual learning needs analysis survey, which provides essential insight into the topics our learners would like to see included in future course development. This valuable feedback will guide our planning for 2026 and beyond.

Our focus remains on delivering relevant, accessible learning opportunities that fit into busy professional schedules. Several new courses are already in development, including some due for release in early 2026. We also have some more Academy Live sessions planned for 2026. Updates will be shared via RCVS social media channels. Details of upcoming Academy Live events can be found on our Events page
