University of Edinburgh

The University of Edinburgh offers:

  • 15 School Bursaries worth £500 each
  • 5 Bellringer Bursaries worth £625 each

These bursaries are intended to financially support students who may otherwise be unable to carry out EMS placements. They can be used for any EMS in any country (including the UK). Both animal husbandry and clinical EMS are eligible. All Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVM&S) years are eligible.

University of Glasgow

Thanks to their generous donors, the University of Glasgow offers a number of student funding opportunities for International EMS experiences.

In addition, the Jimmy Armour Support Fund provides an annual stipend to all of their widening participation students.

Royal Veterinary College (RVC)

EMS+ Awards Scheme

Government Veterinary Services (GVS) reimbursements 

Food Standards Agency (FSA) 

The FSA will reimburse travel, subsistence and accommodation costs for EMS placements, provided receipts comply with FSA policies.

    • Mileage: 24.8p per mile. 
    • Accommodation in London (including breakfast and VAT): up to £145. Subsistence (24hr-rate): £25.

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) / Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) 

    Defra and APHA offer up to £300 to cover food, travel and accommodation for students participating in the one-week Vets in Government EMS placement in Weybridge. Receipts are required.
