Biography

Since qualifying from Glasgow Vet School (1994) Mary worked in mixed and small animal practice, completed the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology and a PhD in Canine Atopic Dermatitis. She then moved to veterinary nursing education in 1999 working at Telford College and Edinburgh Napier University.

Dr Fraser co-developed two City & Guilds qualifications for vet nurses in exotics and emergency care (for Vets Now Ltd) and still tutors C&G Cert VNECC students.

From 2009-2012 she ran her own small animal practice. She has published over 80 papers, book chapters/books and currently lectures on Glasgow University’s Veterinary Nursing MSc, on Research and Evidence Based Veterinary Nursing.

She has been a committee member of BSAVA Scottish Region and Education Committee and has contributed to RCVS Knowledge. Currently she is part of BVA Scottish Region / Veterinary Delivery Landscape group. She is also a Member of the Academy of Medical Educators and is on the ESVPS Academic Board.

Mary runs her own veterinary training business delivering veterinary CPD alongside working for Stirling University, as Head of Skills in the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre. In her spare time she is completing an MRes in Clinical Veterinary Research focusing on Clinical Decision Making and also runs a smallholding, breeding sheep and poultry. Going forward she would like to focus on veterinary training with a specific emphasis on decision making for both vets and veterinary nurses.
