Biography

Andrew qualified from Liverpool University in 1975 and worked in mainly small animal practice until retirement in 2018.

He obtained RCVS Certificates in radiology (1983), small animal orthopaedics (1985) and anaesthesia (1987) together with a Fellowship on the 'critical care of the dog and cat' in 1990.

Andrew became a member of the European College of Veterinary Surgery in 2002 by examination and then awarded Specialist status by the RCVS in the same year.

He continued advancing surgical and imaging skills setting up a referral centre Dovecote Veterinary Hospital in Castle Donington, Derby.
He then became involved with Nottingham University initially as a NVS in their Medical teaching unit and then later on with the setting up of the Veterinary school assisting in demonstrating at the school, becoming an affiliated practice for student rotations and being awarded an Honorary Associate Professorship in small animal surgery.

Andrew was involved in veterinary politics locally with the East Midlands Veterinary Association then nationally with SPVS ( Secretary and President) and BVA (Council member and on various committees).
He represented the UK internationally in the Union of European Veterinary Practitioners by being on its Board as General Secretary and then President followed by 4 years as a Vice President of the Federation of Veterinarians in Europe.
He was also Board member and President of Veterinary Continuous Education in Europe which promotes post graduate CPD.
