Dr Alice McLeish
Biography
Alice graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh in 2016, having grown up in Edinburgh. After qualifying, she moved to the New Forest to take up a small animal position that immediately felt like the right fit - a decision confirmed by the fact that she has remained there ever since.
She has also worked part-time as a wildlife veterinarian and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Conservation Medicine, also at Edinburgh. While wildlife and conservation remain important to her outside of clinical practice, her primary professional passion lies in surgery within first-opinion practice. She is currently completing a surgical certificate with Improve International.
Alice is passionate about the future of the profession. She enjoys supporting the next generation through work experience and EMS placements, is a registered VetGDP Adviser, and serves as a clinical coach for student nurses. Alice hopes that by being on council, she will be able to represent the views of many by being a very ordinary first-opinion practitioner but with lots of thoughts on the direction the profession is going.
Outside of work, Alice can often be found training (slowly) for her next ultramarathon, playing woodwind instruments in bands, fitting her life around watching MotoGP races, reading every book she can get her hands on, and seeing if it is possible to cook everything in an air fryer (so far so good).
