Applying for specialist status as a European Diplomate

If you’re an active EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist:

  • You can apply via a simplified process
  • You must upload a formal EBVS® certificate (emails/screenshots are not accepted), which can be downloaded from the EBVS website.
  • You do not need to complete the self-assessment
  • Your RCVS recognition period will match your EBVS accreditation cycle

If you’re applying for an RCVS specialist title or subtitle that doesn’t closely match your European specialist status, you’ll need to reapply through the full application process.

Applications are reviewed in January, April, August and October. Reapplications for European Diplomates run from 30 November.

From 2022, the length of RCVS accreditation awarded to successful applicants will be based on your EBVS certification, rather than a five-year period being awarded as standard.

Once the accreditation dates are aligned, a five-year RCVS accreditation period will be awarded again as normal (subject to the full five-year EBVS accreditation being awarded).

How to complete your RCVS specialist application

All applicants – European Diplomates, non-European new applicants and non-European reapplicants – apply through My Account. The steps you follow are the same, but the sections you complete and the evidence you upload will differ depending on your route.
