Discover the development of ‘EuthaSafe’ at our upcoming research webinar

The webinar will explore the innovative technology designed to address suicide risk relating to access to means, and the evidence behind it. It will cover how risk could be mitigated or minimised, feature insights into applying for research funding, and offer opportunity for discussion and reflection.

The webinar is being run as part of the College’s ongoing work on suicide prevention in veterinary workplaces. This included the introduction of a new standard to the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme (PSS) on 1 April 2026, requiring all accredited practices to implement a practice-specific suicide prevention plan. The new standard is aligned with the UK’s first standard (BS 30480) for addressing suicide risk in the workplace, and highlights reducing access to means of suicide as a key pillar of suicide prevention.

MMI Lead, Rapinder Newton (pictured), said: “With the introduction of the new PSS requirement, we have teamed up with experts and worked hard to ensure that veterinary practices have access to resources, research and insights to support them in meeting the new standard.

“While this webinar is based around the ‘EuthaSafe’ technology and research, it aims to help individuals and employers to identify risks associated with handling controlled  drugs and explain how robust auditing and accurate tracking of controlled substances can support suicide prevention and save lives.”

The session will be chaired by Angharad Belcher, RCVS Director for the Advancement of the Professions, and Mind Matters, with guests Professor Stuart Reid FRCVS OBE, Rob Walden CEng, and Stef Church BEng – three of the five co-founders of 'EuthaSafe'.
