Coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day 2026, this free research webinar will focus on veterinary suicide prevention, providing lived experience and evidence-based insights, as well as opportunity for discussion and reflection.

Changing the narrative on suicide requires systemic change. It's about shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support.

Webinar agenda

The webinar will include two short research presentations by international veterinary and research experts, followed by an interactive Q&A session.

The two research presentations will include;

  • Suicide is everyone's business: using evidence, lived experience, and research to drive change in veterinary suicide prevention (Dr Alena Gadoury BVSc (Hons) BScN), and;
  • Reflection on the NORVET study, common suicide myths and how the narrative has changed within the Norwegian veterinary society over the past 20 years (Helene Seljenes Dalum DVM PhD).

Intended learning objectives

1

Explore common myths and misconceptions regarding suicide

Look at how we can shift the narrative on these misconceptions

2

Describe how prevalence data, potential risk and protective factors, and lived experience can be used to better understand suicide within the veterinary professions

Explain how these insights can inform suicide prevention efforts

3

Recognise how individuals, teams, and workplaces can contribute to meaningful change

Reflect on how positive work environments can be created where people feel free to speak up
