Welcome to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

Registering as a newly qualified nurse

Once you have received your registrable qualification and have completed the required training hours, you will be eligible to register as a newly-qualified veterinary nurse.

Registration forms are sent directly to students and should be submitted to the RCVS with the registration fee, when you have completed 94 weeks (equivalent to 3,290 hours), excluding annual leave or absence, undertaking an approved programme of training, which must include a full-time period of practical training in an approved training practice or practices of not less than 60 weeks (equivalent to 2,100 hours) since the date of your enrolment as a student veterinary nurse.

For more information about this requirement, download the Veterinary Nursing Bye-Laws from the 'Related documents' box, top right.

Once your registration application has been processed, you will receive your Certificate of Qualification and your Veterinary Nurse Badge.

It will then be your responsibility to ensure that your entry on the Register of Veterinary Nurses is kept up-to-date by informing us immediately of any change of name, address, or employment.

This is so the RCVS can keep you informed of any developments in the status of veterinary nurses.

If you have received your qualification and have not yet received a registration pack, please contact the Veterinary Nursing Department.

Please refer to the main Fees page for updated information on fees.
