Regional Question Time to be held in Winchester this November

18 October 2016

We will be holding one of our Regional Question Time events at the Holiday Inn in Winchester on Thursday 24 November.

Regional Question Times, held approximately three times a year across the country, are a chance for veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and other members of the practice team to talk to officers and senior staff from the College about the issues affecting them in an informal, relaxed atmosphere.

The evening will open at 6.30pm with a buffet supper, followed by an overview of current activities from our President, Chris Tufnell, at 7.15pm. At 7.30pm attendees can then either choose to attend a general question and answers session or a session on Schedule 3 of the Veterinary Surgeons Act, before coming back together for a final discussion with the panel at 8.45pm.

The Schedule 3 session provides veterinary nurses, veterinary surgeons, and other members of the practice team on improvements that could be made to Schedule 3 to strengthen the role of veterinary nurses.

Questions that will be considered include what additional tasks could veterinary nurses be allowed to do under an amended Schedule 3 and whether the College’s guidance on the subject could be improved.

In regard to the general Q & A, these  sessions are flexible and shaped by the attendees’ questions, but possible topics could include the new alternative dispute resolution trial – the Veterinary Client Mediation Service; Vet Futures; VN Futures; Brexit; Schedule 3 review; Mind Matters Initiative; Fellowships; and the new Practice Standards Scheme.

Before the Regional Question Time, we will also be offering free Practice Standards Scheme (PSS) surgeries between 12 noon and 5pm. These 45-minute one-on-ones with Ean Garner-Richardson, one of the PSS assessors, are open to existing PSS members as well as those considering joining the Scheme for the first time.

All members of the veterinary team are welcome, and attending the event can count towards their CPD requirements. Please register for the Regional Question Time online through our Eventbrite page, www.rcvs.eventbrite.com, and please contact Emma Lockley, Events Officer, on [email protected] or 020 7202 0773 to sign up for a PSS surgery.
