Vets' & VNs' views needed for social mobility survey

6 December 2011

We would like to encourage veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses to take part in a short, online survey about social mobility and the professions.

The resulting 'social mobility toolkit' will offer guidance on best practice and be freely available online early in 2012

The survey is part of a broader project on social mobility commissioned and funded by several professional regulators, including the General Medical Council and the Legal Services Board.

It seeks views from the members of different professions to help pin down which indicators of social mobility are important.

From this information, a ‘social mobility toolkit’ will be produced containing up to six measures of social mobility that it would be useful for professional bodies and businesses to gather information against in order to understand the socio-economic make-up of a profession or organisation. It will also offer case studies and guidance on best practice.

The toolkit will be free to use, and is expected to be available online early in 2012.

The survey and toolkit are being undertaken by Spada, a research and communications consultancy, and can be completed anonymously at www.surveymonkey.com/s/socialmobility until 16 December.
