VN Council election nominations 2020

The nomination period for those wishing to stand in the VN Council election in 2020 is now open, and those who are interested have until 5pm on 31 January 2020 to put their names forward. 

There are 2 available places for elected veterinary nurse members in the 2020 election and successful candidates will take up their 3-year terms on VN Council at Royal College Day 2020 - our Annual General Meeting and awards ceremony - in July 2020. 

Those who join VN Council as elected members will, among other things, be expected to help set the standards of education and training for veterinary nurses; help set registration and professional conduct requirements for veterinary nurses; and help determine post-qualification training and continuing professional development policy for veterinary nurses. 

If you are considering standing for election to VN Council in 2020, you will need to read the following information carefully, and then complete and sign the necessary forms before posting them back to us.

Guidance notes

The guidance notes explain the Election Scheme, timetable for nominations and voting period, what documentation is required, guidance about your Candidate Statement and rules about canvassing.

 

Nomination form

The nomination form requires your name, Register address and signature, together with those of your 2 nominators, and the date.

 

Candidate information form

The candidate information form needs to contain all the information that we will publish about you for the electorate to read.

This includes your full name and contact details, a short biography (no more than 200 words) and a 'manifesto' statement (no more than 300 words).

Nominations must be submitted in writing on the prescribed form, duly completed on or before 5pm on 31 January 2020.

 

Election

Voting papers along with a publication containing the contact details, biography and manifestos of all candidates will be distributed to all registered veterinary nurses in the week commencing Monday, 16 March 2020. Voting can also take place online with emails containing a secure and unique link to a voting website being sent out in the same week. 

Each nomination form must bear the signatures and registered addresses of 2 proposers.

No proposer may nominate more than one candidate or be a member of VN Council.
