Applications - Vets - Brexit draft

Whether you have qualified as a veterinary surgeon in the UK or overseas, this section provides information on how to register.

You can register as a veterinary surgeon with the RCVS if you:

Alternatively, if you think you qualify for temporary registration or you're a visiting vet from Europe, please view temporary registration or visiting EU veterinary surgeons.

NB You should start the registration process in plenty of time - see box below for details.

If the university where you received your veterinary degree does not appear on the list above, then you may need to sit and pass the Statutory Membership Examination in order to be accepted onto the Register.

Don't leave it too late!
The registration application process takes 20 days once we have received your application and all supporting documents in the correct format. However, in busy periods, it can take up to 6 weeks to wait for an available appointment.

To avoid any delay to when you can start work, we recommend that you apply to register and book your registration appointment as soon as possible.

We will acknowledge receipt of your application within 3 working days.

Why register?

Only those registered with us may practise veterinary surgery in the UK. Applicants must have the requisite knowledge and skill to do so, and this must meet or exceed the minimum EU training requirements.

The entitlement to be registered as a member of the RCVS is determined by the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.
