Veterinary nurses' journeys begin at RCVS

21 December 2009

An award ceremony was held at the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in Belgravia House, London, on Thursday 17 December to present 47 newly-qualified veterinary nurses with their Certificates in Veterinary Nursing.

Liz Branscombe, Chairman of the RCVS Veterinary Nurses Council, welcomed the attending veterinary nurses, their family, friends and colleagues. She congratulated the veterinary nurses on their achievements and explained how veterinary nursing had developed into a profession with its own Guide to Professional Conduct and non-statutory Register.

“You are joining a profession which can and should be a career for life,” she said. “Veterinary nurses are valued members of the veterinary team and can progress through further qualifications, such as the Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing, and the opportunity to specialise clinically or progress into practice management or nurse education.”

RCVS President Professor Sandy Trees awarded the certificates and badges. He congratulated those receiving awards and thanked their families, partners and friends for their support.

The veterinary nurses and their guests were treated to a celebratory drinks reception in the RCVS Members’ room.
