E-mail scam may be targeting veterinary profession

7 May 2003

The RCVS has received information about an e-mail scam which targeted the legal profession a few years ago and may now be focussing on the veterinary profession. The e-mail is entitled "Supplying of Animal Drug" and is from a Dr.Ahmed Disir who supposedly works as a Corporate Affairs Manager for a company in Nigeria.

In the e-mail he puts forward a business proposition for buying medcine for cattle at a reduced rate and selling it to an established client at a significantly higher price thus securing himself a substantial profit. He proposes using the e-mail recipient's company as the supposed source of the medicine and tries to entice the reader with the large profit figures.

The RCVS urges anyone who receives this e-mail to please delete it. There are a number of such business scams being circulated via e-mail and if you do not know the sender it is advisable to delete these e-mails immediately.
