City and Guilds – FAQs
View our FAQs below for students not able to be certificated for the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing by 31 August 2023
When is C&G cut off point for a submission for certification?
All certificate claims need to be sent to City & Guilds (C&G) no later than Friday 25 August 2023.
What happens if I do not complete the C&G programme of training by the end of the certification date?
You may be eligible to apply to complete the programme with another Awarding Organisation.
The new Awarding Organisation will need to ensure that the components of the programme that have already been completed meet the learning outcomes of their programme.
This should allow you to ‘slot in’ to the new programme, however, there may be some outstanding learning requirements or assessments that you will need to complete.
This may be referred to as ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ (RPL) and it is very important that students, particularly those who are taking a break from their studies, have access to their unit certifications.
It is advised that the Centres contact C&G for clarification on how they apply for unit certification.
How do I apply for an RPL review to an Awarding Organisation?
Your Centre will be able to assist you with transferral of your C&G certificated units in collaboration with the other Awarding Organisations (AOs). If you would like to contact the AOs directly, their contact email addresses are below.
The Awarding Organisations delivering a veterinary nursing provision are:
Central Qualifications – [email protected]
Lantra Awards – [email protected]
VetSkill Limited – [email protected]
What happens if I am not certificated, and I cannot apply for RPL?
- You can register to complete a full level 3 veterinary nursing qualification with another AO; this means you may need to re-enrol or extend your enrolment period with the RCVS. Please contact [email protected] for further information.
- Withdraw as a student veterinary nurse.
Can a Centre recommend that I change programme prior to the end certification date?
If the Centre feels that you are unlikely to complete the C&G programme by the end certification date (31 August 2023) they may feel it is in your best interest to make that transition earlier in the programme.
How will apprenticeship students complete their End Point Assessment?
C&G was not approved as an End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO). The register of End-point Assessment Organisations (EPAO) for veterinary nursing can be viewed on the Gov.uk website.
What will it cost to transfer to another AO?
The cost incurred to transfer is determined by the AO so you will need to discuss any financial implications with your college.
How long is the RCVS enrolment and how do I know how long I have left?
The RCVS enrolment period is six years. You will have been provided access to the ‘my account’ area which will provide you with your enrolment start date.
If you have any trouble accessing this, please email [email protected]
What happens if I decide to take a break from veterinary nursing?
Your college will need to send us a signed VN Student Change of Details form along with details of when you will withdraw as a student veterinary nurse. You will no longer be classed as an active student, so when you return to training with another AO, your college will need to inform the RCVS so that your student status can be re-activated. Your enrolment period will remain the same.
What happens if I do not make a decision by 31 August?
On 15 September 2023, if RCVS has not received notification of your transfer to another Awarding Organisation, your student status will be inactivated on the RCVS database. Where this happens you will be notified in writing.
As you will no longer be a student, you will have no legal dispensation to carry out delegated medical treatments or minor surgical procedures under Schedule 3 and must not carry out work of this nature.
I only have the OSCE examination to complete, can I sit the RCVS Pre-registration examinations?
No, it is not possible to use the RCVS Pre-registration examination as the final assessment to replace the City & Guilds OSCE in order to achieve the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma.
