Biography
Ellen obtained her DVM from Tufts University (1987) and then spent three years in equine practice.
Pursuing a passion for equine surgery, Ellen progressed to a combined American College of Veterinary Surgeons residency and Doctor of Veterinary Science degree (Ontario Veterinary College, 1994).
The following two years, she was Equine Department Head Koret School of Veterinary Medicine, Israel. From 1995 until 2018, Ellen was an integral part of the Equine Orthopaedics team at the University of Liverpool becoming Senior Lecturer (2002).
Ellen became a Diplomate ACVS and ECVS (1997), a RCVS Recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery (2016) and now Fellow of the RCVS.
She has served on BEVA Council and ECVS Credentials Committee and Board of Regents.
Ellen’s area of expertise is equine orthopaedics and surgery, however, she maintains a love of colic surgery.
Ellen’s clinical research areas have included: equine surgical anatomy, orthopaedic disease diagnosis and treatment, and septic arthritis. In keeping with Ellen’s passion for the equine athlete, she has conducted research related to the epidemiology of orthopaedic injuries in race and event horses, response of bone to exercise and bone biomechanics.
Ellen has made a sustained and significant contribution to Veterinary Education at all levels including: teaching students, mentoring interns, training surgical residents, establishing the residency programme at Liverpool and organising and delivering CPD courses.
