Ben Jones (Practice Standards Administrator)
What’s your background?
I joined the RCVS in March of last year, having spent some time doing contract and freelance work since I graduated from the University of Kent with a degree in Politics and International Relations.
What do you do?
I’m often the first port of call for queries that come into the Scheme, as well as providing administrative support to my colleagues in the PSS team, and our inspectors in the field.
Alongside my role in the Practice Standards Scheme, I also maintain the College’s Find a Vet online search tool, and the Register of Veterinary Practice Premises.
In addition to my more veterinary-related work I spend a day a week working on the College’s staff engagement project, driving a programme to create a better and more efficient workplace at the RCVS.
I hope this will have positive repercussions not only for everyone at the College but also those who come into contact with it.
What’s been your biggest challenge?
Getting my head around the different aspects of the Practice Standards Manual. When I started, with no background in veterinary medicine or regulation, the Manual was baffling. Over the last twelve months or I have been talking to practices in the Scheme, taking the opportunity to interact with our inspectors and sharing in the great wealth of knowledge my colleagues have built up. This has left me confident to answer most questions that get thrown at me.
I’ve written six children’s books.
