RCVS to host PSS Awards Ceremony at BVNA Congress in October

16 September 2016

This October we will be at BVNA Congress at Telford International Centre this October, where we will be talking about the VN Futures project, hosting a Practice Standards Scheme (PSS) Awards Reception, and offering free one-on-one surgeries with the Lead Assessor for PSS, Pam Mosedale.

We will be holding the PSS Awards Reception on Friday 7 October between 4pm and 5.30pm, which will pay special recognition to those practices that have already achieved some of the Scheme’s optional awards less than a year after they were launched. Attendees will be able to enjoy some sparkling wine and canapés, whilst hearing about the experiences of three veterinary nurses who have led their practices through the PSS and the new awards. Free tickets can be reserved online.

Liz CoxFrom 9.30am on Friday 7 October, Liz Cox (pictured right), Chair of Veterinary Nurses Council, and Julie Dugmore, our Head of Veterinary Nursing, will also be launching the Congress’s VN Futures-themed stream of talks and workshops with a talk entitled ‘VN Futures – where is the profession headed?’ The speakers will introduce the six main ambitions of the VN Futures Report, published in July, and talk about the project’s latest developments.

VN Council members Hilary Orpet and Andrea Jeffrey will also be giving a talk later the same day on our behalf entitled ‘Failing to Fail’ from 2pm to 3pm, to introduce the new professional competencies assessment tool and how it’s to be used within practice by both clinical coaches and VN students.

On Sunday 9 October from 12 noon to 1pm, Liz Cox will be giving a talk about the importance of veterinary nurses being held accountable for their work and developing, maintaining and improving their professional persona.

Later that afternoon, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm, Liz will be joined by Dot Creighton RVN, the winner of the Golden Jubilee Award 2015, and Eleanor Haskey RVN (on behalf of this year’s winner, Louise O’Dwyer) who will be giving a talk entitled ‘Step up & step out!’ to encourage delegates to make a nomination for the award and to consider taking on a leadership role within the profession.

In addition, College staff will be on stand B8 throughout the course of the Congress to answer questions about a range of different projects and initiatives, including VN Futures, the new PSS, the Mind Matters Initiative, and our new Find a Vet service. Visitors to the stand will be able to take part in the ‘Practice Standards Awards game’ and be in with a chance of winning a Fitbit Alta.

Please contact Emma Lockley ([email protected]) or visit the RCVS stand, B8, on the day to arrange for a one-to-one PSS surgery with Pam Mosedale.
