Biography

Neil Smith graduated from the RVC in 1989, and joined the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. He has experienced many facets of the profession including small animal, equine and meat inspection. His main professional interest is working dogs.

Neil has Masters Degrees in Food Science, Business Administration and Defence Studies and has worked in a range of private, military and charity practices.

First elected to Council from 2004–08 and then 2010-present, Neil has served on all the major committees except Disciplinary, including several years on Preliminary Investigations Committee, as well as the RCVS Trust grants panel.

Neil is a member of BVA and Central Veterinary Society, previously he was President of Southern Counties, Association of Government Vets and RVCAA, as well as a member of NIVA, BSAVA and BVA VPG.

He has wide experience of working with Central Government Departments, both during FMD 2001 and other assignments.

Currently Neil is the Director Army Veterinary and Remount Services and holds the appointment of the Queen’s Honorary Veterinary Surgeon, he is also a Trustee of the Blue Cross.
