The retention fee is the annual subscription fee to be paid by members to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
It is due on the 31st March and can be paid in the following ways:
Changes to the categories of membership were approved by the Privy Council in December 2005.

Direct debit
Paying by Direct Debit incurs no bank charge and the retention fee is automatically debited from your account each year.
We can only take payment by Direct Debit once a year on or around the 1st April. If you wish to pay by Direct Debit please complete the Direct Debit form (PDF 76Kb) and return it to us before the end of December.
When filling in the form please ensure you have entered your Membership Number, relevant bank account information and that you have signed / dated the form.

Credit card
When filling in the Credit Card form please ensure you have entered the following information clearly:
Card Number
Expiry Date
The total amount to deduct (Your Retention Fee + 3% Surcharge)
Sign the form and date it
You may either Post the form or fax it to us, please do not do both as this may cause duplicate payments and complications. Also if you decide to fax the form to us, only send it once.
You are advised to check with your bank account within one month of us receiving the form if the money has been debited. If it has not been debited then please contact us.

UK cheque
When paying by cheque please ensure you have completed the following:
Date (Note that we cannot accept Post Dated Cheques)
Make Cheques Payable to: "Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons"
Enter the amount in numbers and also in words
Sign the cheque
Write your membership number or full name on the back of the cheque

Bank Draft
When Paying by Bankers Draft, ensure the Draft is drawn on a UK bank account and made payable to "Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons" in £ Sterling and that your membership number or full name is on back of the Draft.

Bank Transfer
If you wish to pay your retention fee by bank transfer, please contact the Finance Department and we will provide you with the relevant information.
When paying by bank transfer you are responsible for paying any bank charges incurred, which are approximately £7. Please use your Membership number or Full Name as a reference; this will enable us to allocate the money to the relevant member.

Registration fees (as of 1 April 2010)
Registration fee = £73.00 + plus proportion of home-practising retention fee expressed in quarters of the year.
Restoration fee
The Restoration Fee depends on the nature of your removal:
Voluntary Removal = £147.00 + plus relevant proportion of retention fee for the remaining year.
Removal for Non Payment = £294 + plus payment of the whole retention fee for Register Category at the time of removal.

Temporary registration fee = £294.00
