Statutory Examination for Membership

If your qualification is not recognised by the RCVS you must sit and pass the RCVS Statutory Examination for Membership in order to register. To find out if we recognise your qualification click on how to register.

2011 Examination

You should send RCVS an intention to sit form and proof of your identity and your primary veterinary qualification as soon as you decide that you intend to sit the 2011 examination.

Updated examination information and application forms will be published here in October 2010.  In the meantime, click on the current link above.

You must meet the RCVS English language competence requirement before you apply for the examination.  You can send your test result to RCVS for verification at any time.

The closing date for entry to the 2011 examination is 14 February 2011.

Written examinations will be held on 4 and 5 May 2011 in London (dates and venue subject to confirmation).

The Combined clinical, oral and practical examination will be held at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh in early July 2011.

Preparing yourself for sitting the examination

Before applying to sit the statutory membership examination, all examination applicants must meet the RCVS requirement for proof of English language competence (PDF File 28Kb) by providing evidence of an overall band score of at least 7.0 in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) English test. For more information about IELTS and where you can sit the test, please visit the British Council website or the IELTS website.
